[This family is to be researched further in due course. See the note at the top of Wallace03.]

Sir John Wallace of Craigie, Ayrshire (b c1530, d 1570)
m. Margaret Cunningham (dau of Alexander Cunningham, 5th Earl of Glencairn) named Mary by Paterson
1. Sir John Wallace of Craigie (d after 1596)
m1. Margaret Campbell (d 05.05.1597, dau of Sir Matthew Campbell of Loudoun)
There is something wrong either with these dates or with the fact that both Margaret and John are noted as having married again after this marriage. In Margaret's case it appears that she had several children by a second marriage (to Lord Boyd). Paterson shows this John as m. Margaret Campbell and his son John as m. Elizabeth Douglas. Vans suggests that Elizabeth was this John' s second wife.
  A. Sir John Wallace of Craigie (d before 07.1625)
  m. (mcrt 11.1597) Margaret Maxwell (dau of John Maxwell, 8th Lord of Carlaverock, Earl of Morton)
  i. Sir Hugh Wallace, (1st) Bart of Craigie (b c1600, d before 08.03.1660)
  m. (c1616) Hester or Esther Ker (dau of Sir John Ker of Littledean)
Vans & Paterson suggest that Hugh was the 1st Baronet. There is a story that, having accused his sons of robbing him and trying to murder him, he disinherited them in favour of his nephew. TCB suggests thaa it was his nephew Thomas who was created baronet. However, TCB notes that "Sir Hugh Wallace is often considered to have been himself aBaronet [S.], and is said [Playfair's Baronetage] to have been so cr. in 1669, thoiugh there is no record of such creation and, apparently, no recognition of it" but for an observation in Milne's 'List'.

  m. Agnes Pringle (of Stichhill)

  c.+ other issue - William, John, Elizabeth (b 05.1635)
ii. William Wallace (minister of Failford)
Vans shows this as the William who married Agnes Boyd and was father of Sir Thomas, etc.. Paterson suggests that Sir Thomas was great-nephew of Sir Hugh which is supported by TCB which shows that the husband if Agnes Boyd was not this William but his son ...
