Commoners suggests that "The name of Florence would seem to indicate something of Flemish origin, (as) it is comparatively of infrequent occurence in the histories of the period." MacGregor spells the family name "Auchmouthie", Wood mostly as "Auchmutie" and Commoners as either "Auchmuty" or "Auchmoutu". Somewhat arbitrarily, after a few generations we mostly keep to "Auchmuty".

After naming the above Florence, Commoners next names the following David, reporting that his unnamed father "married the second daughter of Sir John Boswell, of Balmut,. widow of James Halket, of Pitferran." Noting the dates, we suppose that this was this Thomas, named by MacGregor, but that she was his 2nd wife, not David's mother.

MacGregor shows 2 generations of Alexanders, identifying this one as father of the next. Commoners & Wood show just one Alexander. Commoners just mentions a date for its Alexander (1517) whilst Wood implies that he was laird 1514-1536, that probably being ...

Wood moves from the above-mentioned Henry to Florence of Hallhill, son of David of Easter Fernie, and identifies him as father of another Florence (Florentius), "perhaps Lawrence, and Alexander of Stenton". Commoners moves from the above Henry to David (a 1544) then John who m. Isabel Wemyss. We follow MacGregor except to add the Lawrence mentioned by Wood.

This is the last generation covered by our sources. The above is as given by MacGregor. Commoners names David as David's eldest son along with Alexander, Charles, Colin (m. Janet Sinclair) "and others". However, Commoners then confuses the issue by indicating that David was b 1648 but "is supposed to have been amongst those who fell on King Charles's side in the fatal battle of Worcester" which was in September 1651.
