David Bruce of Stanstill (d by 13.06.1595)
The possible connection with the Bruces of Clackmannan, which is given by RedBookScot (which identifies David as 1st of Stanstill), should probably be viewed as speculative. Henderson reports that "The Bruces (in Caithness), of whom the principal family was Bruce of Stanstill, are of old standing in the county. It is believed that ancient charters connected with this family are still extant in the charter-chest of Mr. Wemyss of Southdun; but the information at hand does not extend beyond 1559." Henderson reports that "Saul seems to have been the patronymic or clan name of the Bruces" and suggests that this was probably the "David Saul of 1562 (who) obtained a charter of Stanstill".
