Families covered: MacCartney of Auchinleck, Macartney of Lissanoure

Identified by Lodge as "supposed to be a younger branch of Mac-Carthy-More" was Daniel MacCarthy or MacCartney who "In the beginning of the fourteenth century ... went from Ireland into Scotland". His son Donough or Daniel MacCartney "went over to Scotland, after the death of Edward Bruce (1318) , to his brother K. Robert, whom he served in his wars, and obtained from him a grant of Lands in Argyleshire". "The family divided into three branches, viz. MacCartney of Micckle-Leathes, Mac-Cartney of Auchinleck, and Mac-Cartney of Blacket." Lodge (or Archdall) adds "From the ranch of Mickle-Leathes descended John Mac-Cartney, Esq. of Halket-Leathes in the Stewarty of Kircudbright, who deceased without issue in 1780." The line of Auchlineck is followed below. The line of Blacket is reported on Macartney2.
