Sir Edward obtained great power, becoming Governor of the King's Person and Protector of the Realm during the early years of King Edward VI, but failed to relax his grip as the young King grew older. He was attainted and executed. The dukedom was eventually resurrected in favour of a great-grandson by his second marriage (William, Marquess of Hertford) although it eventually fell to a descendant of his eldest surviving son (Edward, 6th Bart of Berry Pomeroy). | |||||||||||||||

This connection is speculative. Collins (1741, vol I, Seymour, Duke of Somerset) reports that the Seymours (Seymers) of Hanford were possibly descended from the above-mentioned Humphrey of Evenswinden and the dates indicate that there were probably no intervening generations between this John and that Humphrey.
