This page is still being researched. It has NOT yet been launched formally into the Database but is shown here TEMPORARILY (albeit for an uncertain length of time pending further research), partly to record connections that we fear we might otherwise lose sight of and partly in the hope that one or more visitors to the site will contribute information that will enable us to develop our information on the families covered in this page to a standard that would support release of a dedicated page in the Database.

William Fairfax in Suffolk
The ancestry for William has been reported in various web sites & newspapers but we are not clear how well it has been proven. This William is the first mentioned by Visitation (Norfolk, 1563+1589+1613, Fairfax) which reports just 2-3 generations after him.
1. William Fairfax of Walsingham, Norfolk
  m. Lucy Goodman (dau of John Goodman of Springswell)
  A. Thomas Fairfax of Walsingham (2nd son)
  m. Mary Sponer (dau of Thomas Sponer of Fyshley)
i.+ issue - Thomas, William, Charles, Elizabeth, Mary
  B. John Fairfax (5th/youngest son)
Visitation shows that there was a John of this generation. The connection below comes from various web sites, and we have been advised that it was reported in at least one national newspaper following the announcement of the engagement of Kate Middleton to Prince William, but we do not know how reliable it is.
  i. Benjamin Fairfax of Rumburgh (b 1592, d 1675)
  m. Sarah Galliard (dau of Roger Galliard of Ashwell Thorpe)
  a. Benjamin Fairfax of Halesworth (d 1708)
  m. Bridget Stringer (dau of Walter Stringer of Chester)
  (1) Sarah Fairfax (b 1654, dvp 1688)
  m. (1675) John Meadows (b 07.04.1622, bur 01.03.1697, vicar of Ousden)
Sarah & John were ancestors of Thomas Martineau whose granddaughter, Frances Elizabeth Greenhow, is shown above.
C.+ other issue - Anthony, William (dsp), Richard, Margaret (dsp), Elizabeth (dsp)

Main source(s): various web sites (not least www.wargs.com/royal/kate.html), various newspapers (November 2010) with input/support as reported above
