Families covered: Barnaby of Barnaby Castle, Barneby of Brockhampton, Barneby (Barnaby) of Hill
[This page was launched as Barneby01. It was renamed Barneby02 when a new Barneby01 was launched to cover what appears to have been the senior branch of the family (see note just below).]
Commoners reports that the following family was "probably a younger branch of the ancient family of Barnby, of Barnby Hall". Visitation (1569) spells the family name as 'Barnaby', as does Commoners in a note, but otherwise 'Barneby' is used by our sources. Commoners identifies the Barneby arms as "sa. a lion passant gardant between three escallops arg.". | |||||||||||||||

Commoners provides the above in a note, based on an old manuscript, and then continues with William (m. dau of Delamere, Lord of Woodhamton) father of John (m. dau/sole heir to Whitgreve) father of Thomas (m. dau/heir of Acton of Acton) then continues for 3 more generations. However, the first mentioned by Commoners in its main article was the following Thomas, indicating concern that the old manuscript was mistaken on at least some of the generations, thereby throwing doubt on the earlier generations.
