Families covered: Burke of Ballintober, Burke of Ballydugan, Burke of Clogheroke, Burke (Hardiman-Burke) of Issercleran (St. Clerans), Burke of Lismore

Descended "in the 7th generation" from Walter de Burgh, 3rd son of Sir William de Burgh (d 1324), and his wife, one of the family of MacJordan" (see here), was the following John. Note that the Dominick shown below (4th son of William McShane) may possibly be ancestor to Peter Burke of Elm Hall and his son John Burke, the famous genealogist, which might mean that he was descended from that Walter through a brother of John Bourke of Meelick Castle, Baron of Leitrim (b c1557, dspl 1583), and hence possibly from a Burke of Meelick. However, John was contemporaneous with Baron John so it is possible that he was his cousin. That might reduce the discrepancy in generations as we presently show Baron John as of the 11th generation from Walter de Burgh, though that does not concern us much given that there is known to have been confusion between the generations after that Walter.
