Paterson does not identify any wives for either of the 2 generations of Johns. Isobel Abernethy is idendified as contracted to John the younger in 1593. Elizabeth Rose was probably a wife of one of the Johns but that was after 07.1589 and she married again afterwards. Although it is noted that marriage contracts were sometimes drawn up for young chiildren, the 1597 contract date for William, son of the younger John, makes it unlikely that either Elizabeth or Isobel were mothers of William. It is possible that Isobel was 2nd wife of John the elder but, provisionally, we show the other possibility (excluding a mistake in the identification of one of the people involved) which is that Isobel died soon after her marriage to John the younger who then (promptly) married Elizabeth.
m2. (mcrt 10.12.1593) Isobel Abernethy (dau of Alexander Abernethy, 6th Lord Saltoun)
m3. Elizabeth Rose (dau of Hugh Rose of Kilravock, widow of Walter Urquhart of Cromarty then Robert Munro (who d 07.1589), m4. William Gordon of Carnborrow then Rothiemay)
2. Bigla Cuming ("fair maid of Moray")
Possibly confused with Jean, wife of the Earl of Huntly, whom we show as aunt of the above John.
