This family is said to have taken its name from the barony of Halkhead in Renfrewshire. Douglas spells the name 'Halket' throughout but, following the lead of the sources which cover the recent generations of the family, we switch to 'Halkett' after just a few generations.

3. Patrick Halkett of Lumphennan had issue (including Halkett of Moxhall)
  BLG1886 (Hacket of Moor Hall) reports that the following Andrew, who had a son born in 1592, "claimed descent" from Patrick. As Andrew had a grandson who was 'of Moxhull', that appears to be supported by Douglas. The dates suggest that Andrew must have been Patrick's son or grandson.
