Sir William Lindsay of Rossie and Logie, later of Crambeth (b c1350, d before 1438) | |||||||||||||||
Sir William's wife is named by some sources, including BP2002, as Agnes (heiress of Crambeth) but 'Lives of the Lindsays' suggests that her name was Elizabeth, daughter of Sir John de Valoniis, heiress of Crambeth through her mother, Agnes. Jack Blair, a well-respected genealogist, has kindly advised us (02.09.06) that William's wife in 1397 was called Elizabeth and that the link to Sir John de Valoniis of Crambeth may have come through a sister (close relation?) Elizabeth Lindsay who was Sir John's last wife and that there is nothing to suggest that Crambeth came through his wife. Furthermore, Jack Blair: - suggested that William's first marriage was without issue (whereas the other sources indicate that she was mother of John). - identified children by Matilda as shown below. - reported that the arms of William's son John, the eldest of his sons, indicate that he was illegitimate. |
