Commoners reported that "This ancient and knightly family (the most powerful of all the Normans that settled in Glamorganshire) were, previous to their advent in that county, Lords of Crûg Howell (now written Crickhowell), in Brecknockshire, which they obtained at the conquest of Brecknock, from Sir Bernard Newmarch, the Norman knight, who, in the early part of William Rufus's reign, entered Brecknockshire, and won the lordship from the then possessor, Bleddyn ap Manyrch, a Welsh Prince."

Later members of this family were at Penlline Castle which may have come into this family through the marriage of Tomkin & Lucy Norris. The first reference to a Turbervile of Penlline seems to be the following Hamon (identified as father of Elizabeth). It should be noted that showing him here is wholly speculative and should not be taken as supported by anyone! However, it seems worthwhile to suggest that he may have fitted somewhere around here.

m. Sir Richard Maunsell of Oxwich (d 1435)
It can be seen from a marriage above that this family and the de la Bere family knew each other. It is therefore thought possible that the family of Turbervile which was at Bere Regis for several generations was connected to this family. The first mention we have found of a member of that family was of the following Richard. It should be noted that showing him here is wholly speculative and should not be taken as supported by anyone! However, it seems worthwhile to suggest that he may have fitted somewhere around here.

BE1883 (Beauchamp of Hache) reports that Cecily had a daughter Juliana by this marriage. As the male line appears to have continued, it is presumed that Cecily was Richard's 2nd wife.
