| BIFR1976 reports that "It was formerly believed that this family descended from Sir Thomas White, of Rickmanswoth, Herts, Lord Mayor of London .... However, it seems much more likely that the family is of Norman-Irish descent, since the second know ancestor, Simon ..., and his son John, bore arms which were identical with those on a momunment in St Mary's Church, Clonmel to an earlier John White, who d 1555. Simon White was, moreover, the twenty-ninth of his name to be Mayor of Limerick, the first having been Robert White, Mayor in 1213, and it is possible that some of them were his forebears." | |||||||||||||||
