| BHO ('The History and Topographical Survey of the County of Kent', volume 9, 'Parishes: Bekesborne') reports of Sir Henry Palmer of Howlests that his family "was originally of Snodland, near Rocherster (sic), whence they branched off to Tottington, in Aylesbord, and to this parish of Bekesborne."
