(1) This page is still being researched. It has NOT yet been launched formally into the Database but is shown here TEMPORARILY (albeit for an uncertain length of time pending further research), partly to record connections that we fear we might otherwise lose sight of and partly in the hope that one or more visitors to the site will contribute information that will enable us to develop our information on the families covered in this page to a standard that would support release of a dedicated page in the Database.
(2) This page, which was first released on 12.10.21, includes 2 of the families mentioned in 'Connections with Glasgow's Merchant House and City Authorities' (which may be seen here, PDF opens on a new tab). That schedule was one of the family trees included in 'Familial but Unfamiliar Roots' by Peter Barns-Graham, Stirnet's founder. That book is referred to on History of the site.

(Thomas) Bennett of Totting (tanner)
m. Anna (not Agnes) Maria Evans (d 1808, dau of David Evans ("a Welshman") of Bristol (grocer), housekeeper & mistress of Admiral Pye)
MGH reports that Anna was "a very remarkable character", being at various times a keeper of a slop-shot, a chandler, a matron of a workhouse, and a popular novelist whose first book sold out, possibly because of her notoriety. We follow MGH in showing her children as by her husband rather than by the Admiral who, though never named by MGH, was Sir Thomas Pye (## see here ##). This is because "According to law the children were legitimate." However, it is thought likely that they were in fact children of the Admiral although, if that was the case, her son Thomas's marriage to the Admiral's legitimate daughter Mary would have been incestuous.
