There is some confusion as to which generation Sir Thomas belonged to. We intend to investigate this in due course, when we show his descendants as reported in Maddison's Lincolnshire Pedigrees (1903, 'Clifford of Brakenborough') which identifies him as son of Sir Robert of Brakenborough, 3rd son of Lord John, whilst noting that others identify him as 4th son of Thomas, 8th Lord, by Johanna Dacre. BE1883 identifies his wife as Ellen, dau/coheir of John Swarby of Brakenburgh. This appears to be ...
