  A. John Iwardby
(1) John is mentioned by Maddison but not by Lipscomb. There is confusion over the identity of the Sir John Iwardby of Quainton, Purley & Farley-Chamberlayne whose dau/heir was the undermentioned Joan. VCH (Hampshire, vol 4, 'Parishes: Farley Chambelayne') indicates that John of Quainton who died in 1485 (shown below) had a son John (d 1525) who was the father of Joan. However, Lipscomb, Maddison & VCH (Buckinghamshire, vol 2, 'Parishes: Great Missenden') all report that that John (d 1485) had 3 daughters who were his coheirs (as below). VCH (Surrey, vol 3, 'Parishes: Ewell') reports that a John Iwardby took possession of a manor called Fitznells in 1438 and was succeeded in it by his son John and that Joan, the daughter of Sir John Iwardby (presumably that son John), held it in 1542. That supports the view that it was this John (son of Katherine Missenden) who was father of Sir John, father of Joan. Provisionally we show that to have been the case but, not least because of the inconsistencies within VCH, this should not be viewed as 'proven'.
(2) This is possibly the John Iwarby of Mapledurham who married Katherine Nevill, dau of Edward, 3rd Lord Bergavenny.
