TCB, quoting from DNB, reports that the following John was said to have been "the son of a private soldier in the Life Guards of William II, Prince of Orange .. by a mother .. who was "stated" to have been that Prince's mistress" and notes that he was described as "a Dutch gamester, of mean extraction,who had got much by gaming."
