The following comes from 'History of the County of Ayr' (James Paterson, vol 2, 1852, p124) but the connection is speculative, being based on Paterson's note that, whilst Robertson suggests that the following William was "the son of Cochran of Ferguslee, and grand-nephew of the Earl of Dundonald". However, Paterson adds that that "is somewhat doubtful" as another source suggests that William was "grandson of Robert Cochran of Muirscheill".
