(1) Commoners reports that "This family has resided at Harpton Court, in the county of Radnor, as long as any record of that county exists, its lineage being traceable for many generations before the custom of using surnames prevailed in Wales." Commoners identifies the quartered arms of the family of Harpton as "first and fourth, arg. an eagle displayed, gules. Second and third, arg. a lion rampant sa. ducally crowned or."
(2) HoP ("Thomas Lewis of Harpton") reports that "The Lewis family of Harpton was of ancient Welsh lineage, claiming ancestry from Rhys ap Tewdwr, king of Deheubarth in the 11th century; it was also related to the Lewis family of Gladestry, Thomas's father Hugh being first cousin to Ieuan Lewis of Gladestry." HoP ("Ieuan Lewis of Gladestry") identifies that Ieuan as 1st son of Jenkin ap David ap Lewis ap Stephen of Gladestry. That identifies the father of Hugh as ...
