(1) We found it surprisingly difficult to find information on this family. Our congratulations to Gordon MacGregor for pulling together the pedigrees shown below.
(2) The following concerns the family of Auchinlech in Ayrshire. We have seen reference to the supposed fact that there was another Auchinlech, in either Perthshire or Forfarshire. We are not convinced by that but note that we have found references to Auchinlecks of that ilk who are not mentioned by MacGregor and so might have been of another Auchinleck. To avoid losing sight of them, we show them here.

(1) MacGregor reports that the descent of Sir George Auchinleck, 2nd of Balmanno (and of his father), was proved in 1630 when he "was served heir-male to Mr John Auchinleck, second son of the deceased Sir John Auchinleck of that ilk, brother of his great-great-grandfather". That has led us to make the above connection which, we stress, is highly speculative.
(2) Balmanno is reported to have come into the Auchinleck family through a marriage of an Auchinleck of that ilk with the heiress of Balmanno of that ilk. Accordingly, it is likely that William of Scethin (father-in-law of the following Andrew's son George) was also of this family, probably a senior branch to this (second?) line of Auchinleck of Balmanno.
Andrew Auchinleck in Peterhead (d 01.02.1582) - continued above
m1. Jane Douglas (d 01.12.1556) see ## under grandson George just below
1. Sir George Auchinleck, 1st of Balmanno (d 03.11.1596)
MacGregor does not report which of Sir George's wives were the mothers of which of his children. We presume that the eldest, George, was son of his first wife because he succeeded to Balmanno (and was invested in the lands of Raxton) on his father's death in 1598. He would have been too young to do so had Jean Erskine been his mother. We are left uncertain which wife was mother of Adam & Margaret.
m1. (by 03.1572) Elizabeth Auchinleck, heiress of Balmanno & Polgony (dau of William Auchinleck of Scethin)
  A. Sir George Auchinleck, 2nd of Balmanno (d before 23.02.1639, Lord of Session as Lord Balmanno)
## 'An historical account of The Senators of The College of Justice' (George Brunton & David Haig, 1836, 'Sir George Auchinleck of Balmanno', p273+), suggests that this Sir George was son of Sir William son of Sir George "who was nephew and favourite of the Regent Morton". MacGregor (p254) notes that this George's father "had become one of the personal servants of James Douglas, Earl of Morton" i.e. of Regent Morton. The difference in the naming of his father makes us hold back from linking George's grandmother to the Regent's family but we think it worth reporting that account.
m1. (mcrt 25.01.1589) Isabel Melville (dsp 21.12.1593, dau of John Melville of Raith)
m2. (by 1597) Sarah Douglas (dau of William Douglas, 9th Earl of Angus, widow of Robert Strachan)
It is our presumption that Sarah was mother of all of George's children. It is possible that his 3rd wife, Elizabeth Wemyss, was mother of 1 or more of them. However, as his elder son William witnessed a charter in 1618, we presume that he was 'of age' by then so was probably of this 2nd marriage.
