[This page was first launched on 28.10.15 as Draft. It was moved here after review led to the acceptance that there was little chance of our making a significant improvement to it in the near future and that it was 'good enough' to be promoted into the main database. It is nevertheless frustrating that we have been unable to connect together at least some of the sections shown below. We still hope to do so in due course but, to do that, may need the assistance of someone who has made a serious study of Draper families.]

(1) The following comes from Visitation (London, 1568 & 1598, 'Draper') with support from Visitation (Leicestershire, 1619, 'Draper'), CTG (vol 3, p150) and some input as noted below. (2) Visitation (London, 1568) provides quarterly arms with the first 2 being for Draper and the 3rd being of Urswick and the 4th for Aucher. The first Draper arms are 'Argent, on a fess between three annulets gules a mullet between two covered cups'. The second Draper arms are 'Argent, on two chevrons between three escallops sable six martlets or'. Visitation (London, 1598), which is basically just Visitation (1568) plus some additions, mentions those arms but also reports separately, with precedence, just the second of those Draper arms. |

(1) The following comes from TCB (vol 3, 'Draper of Sunninghill Park', p35), Visitation (London, 1634, 'Draper' (2)) and Visitation (W. Harry Rylands (1908), Berkshire, 'Additional Pedigrees and Notes', 'Draper of Sunninghill'). Rylands reports what is given in Visitation (London) and then gives contradictory comments on it. One note reports that Thomas of Islington, son/heir of the Thomas of Lincoln's Inn by Sarah James, died in 1631 having never married. Another identifies the Thomas of Stroud Geen (Middlesex), grantee of the arms, as son of John and died 23.10.1612. Another shows Sir Thomas of Sonning Hill (Bart), brother of Roger + Edmond + Sarah + Elizabeth, as son of Robert Draper of Remenham by Elizabeth Morgan and repeates the note that "This pedigree gives the correct parentage of Sir Thomas Draper". It appears that there has been confusion between related people, probably cousins. The following tried to pull this contradictory data using TCB as the guide, although TCB is not clear as to the Baronet's parentage other than to show his mother as m2. Sir Nicholas Kempe (who d 1624). (2) Rylands provides graphics of the arms of this family which we describe (possibly wrongly, not least because the pictures show the chief & fess between them covering the amount normally covered by the chief only) as 'bendy or & gules, in chief argent 3 fleur-de-lis sable, fess ermine'. |
