Families covered: Salkeld of Brayton, Salkeld of Gowbarrow, Salkeld of Threapland, Salkeld of Whitehall
[Parts of this page were first launched on 17.04.07 within a Draft 'Salkeld1' using Visitation (Cumberland, 1615) and input from various web sites. That draft was reviewed and completely redone and then split into 2 pages, Salkeld1 (used for the continuation) and this page (replacing the old Salkeld2 which is now Salkeld3), which were then launched into the main database.]

BHO ('Magna Brittania, vol 4, Cumberland' on the family of 'Salkeld of Little-Salkeld, Corby, Whitehall, &c.' in the section called 'Families extinct since 1500' reports that "The Salkelds of Whitehall were descended from a younger son of the Corby branch, who settled at Gowbarrow; not long after they became possessed of Corby. This branch, after three descents, removed to Whitehall. The Salkelds of Whitehall became extinct by the death of Dr. Henry Salkeld, a physician of York, about the middle of the last century (his widow died in 1769). An heiress of Hudleston and a coheiress of Berdesey, married into the Whitehall branch."
