Edward Shelley of Worminghurst Park
m. Jane Edon (dau/heir of Paul Edon (Eden) of Penshurst)
1. | Henry Shelley of Worminghurst (a 1565)
m. Ann Sackville (dau/heir of Richard Sackville of Chepsted, m1/2. Thomas Matson)
There is some confusion over the next 2 generations. Visitation shows Henry & Ann as parents of Mary + another Henry who married another Ann (dau/heir Sackvile) parents of Mary + another Henry who was father by Barbara Cromer of 4 married daughters. BP1934 shows this Henry & Anne as having an only son Henry and then mentions only Richard (m. Joan Fuste), identified as that last Henry's 3rd son. Berry shows this Henry & Ann as parents of Edward (d young) + Mary + Henry who m. Barbara Cromer and had several children including Richard (3rd son, m. Joan Fuste) and those 4 married daughters. We prefer to follow Berry who, for these generations, provides much more information than either Visitation or BP1934. However, we are cautious about omitting that additional generation because this Henry was probably not young in 1565 (his cousin, John of Michelgrove, died in 1550) and there is a bit of a gap to the next Henry reported by Berry who died in 1623 whereas his 2nd cousins of the Michelgrove line died in the 1590s.
