This page is still being researched. It has NOT yet been launched formally into the Database but is shown here TEMPORARILY (albeit for an uncertain length of time pending further research), partly to record connections that we fear we might otherwise lose sight of and partly in the hope that one or more visitors to the site will contribute information that will enable us to develop our information on the families covered in this page to a standard that would support release of a dedicated page in the Database.

Richard de Thoresby
We hope in due course to connect the following family with that shown on Thursby01. This has been complicated by the overlap with Thursby02 mentioned below.
1. Sir Adam de Thoresby
  m. Sibill FitzRandulph (dau of Sir Randulph FitzRandulph of Spennithorne)
  A. Sir Hugh de Thoresby
  m. Qenylda (dau of Sir Richard or Nicholas de Gertherstone)
  i. Hugh Thoresbye
  m. Isabell le Grose (dau of Sir Thomas le Grose of Suffolk)
  a. Hugh Thoresby
  m. Alice Syggeston (dau of Sir John Syggeston)
(1) John Thoresby
  m. Margery Routh (dau of William de Routh of Holderness)
  (A) William Thoresby of Thoresby
  m. Anne Scrope (dau of Henry Scrope of Spennithorne, son of John of Hambeldon)
This is where the overlap with Thursby02 commences.
  (B) Robert Thoresby
  (C) Hugh Thoresby
  m. Maude Hartford (dau of William Hartford of Baddesworth)
  (i) Agnes Thoresby
  m. Thomas Dodsworth
  (a)+ issue - Ralph, Jane
  (ii) Isabel Thoresby
  m. John Quixley
  (a)+ issue - George, Nicholas
b.+ other issue - Percy, Thomas, Maddy, John
  B. Sir Percie Thoresby (priest)

James Carrier of Helpston
m. Elizabeth Parker (dau of Thomas Parker of Browsholme)
1. Bridget Carrier
  m. William Parker of Park Hall
It appears that the Carriers of Helpston (Northamptonshire) and those of Wirksworth (Derbyshire) were closely connected, the undermentioned Janet being found described in a web site as heiress of both places.
Richard Carrier of Wirksworth (minister of Wirksworth)
m. (08.1612/3) Janet Parker (dau of Thomas Parker of Browsholme)
1. Robert Carrier of Wirksworth said by some to have in fact been Charles so that Janet & Isabella were sisters
  m. Elizabeth
  A. Janet Carrier (23.08.1733, 2nd dau/heir)
  m. (23.04.1691) Thomas Parker, 1st Earl of Macclesfield (b 23.07.1667, d 28.04.1732)
TCP (Macclesfield) suggests that Janet's great-grandfather, Thomas Parker of Browsholme, was the Thomas who was older brother of George Parker of Park Hall, grandfather of 1st Earl of Macclesfield, making her 2nd cousin of her husband. However, that appears to be wrong as the Parkers of Browsholme were of a different family.
2. Charles Carrier of Wirksworth possibly fits here
  A. Isabella Carrier (co-heir)
Collins (1741, Anson (in supplement)) identifies William's wife as Elizabeth, dau of _ Carrier of Wirkworth (sic) and sister of the Countess of Macclesfield. However, TCP (Anson) supports BP1934 (Lichfield) in identifying her as Isabella, daughter of Charles.
  m. William Anson of Shugborough (b c1656, d 08.1720)
3. Isabella Carrier probably of this generation
  m. (20.09.1653) John Davenport of Woodford

TSP (Kenmure) identified the following William as ancestor of Gordons of Craighlaw, Culvennan, Crosherie, Mains of Penningham, Glasgow, Whitehill, Aikenhead, Grange & Balmog.
William Gordon of Craichlaw, Wigtonshire (d 1545)
m. Janet Baillie
1. William Gordon of Craichlaw (d 1570)
  A. John Gordon of Craichlaw (d 1580) possibly the 'Gordon of Craiglaw' who married ...
  m. ?? Crawford (dau of David Crawfurd of Kerse) possibly wife of John & mother of ...
  i. William Gordon of Craichlaw & Culvennan (Wigtonshire) (d 1636)
  a. Alexander Gordon of Culvennan (d 1679)
  (1) William Gordon of Culvennan (d 1703)
(A) William Gordon of Culvennan
Commoners reports that William was succeeded by Sir Alexander Gordon of Culvennan. When first looking at this family we assumed that Alexander, his successor, was William's son (though we did show "to whom succeeded" ... to indicate that such was an assumption). On 24.01.23 we realised that that Sir Alexander (b c1747) was shown on Gordon13 as son of William Gordon of Greenlaw, later of Culvennan, by Isabel McCulloch Gordon of Culvennan. We now presume that that Isabel was this William's daughter & heiress and Alexander was William's grandson, not son. That fits the dates better.
  (i) Isabel McCulloch Gordon of Culvennan (d 10.1802)
  m. (1740) William Gordon of Greenlaw, later of Culvennan (b 1706, d 10.1757)
ii. daughter possibly of this generation
  m. David Crawfurd of Drumsoy (d c1660, cousin)
