Thomas Maxwell 'of Gelston'
TCB (vol 3, 'Maxwell of Orchardtoun', p340) shows that the baronetcy of Orchardtoun "became, apparently, extinct or dormant" upon the death of the 2nd Baronet who is shown in the continuation as elder brother of this Thomas. However, TCB adds a note that the baronetcy "was, however, assumed subsequently, and the deaths occur of (1) "Sir George Maxwell, of Orchardton, 28 Dec. 1746." and (2) Sir Robert Maxwell, Baronet, of Orchardtown, 21 Sep. 1786," who is said to have been the 7th and last Baronet."

(2) For lower & middle sections : the web site 'ThePeerage.com' (here) and as reported above [N.B. ThePeerage.com cites 'The Book of Carlaverock' (William Fraser, 1873) as the source for most of the information shown above. We have obtained what we thought was a copy of that book but have been unable to verify the information shown above. However, that could easily be because EITHER we used a different version of that book and/or were looking at the wrong book altogether OR we were not as diligent as that web site in digging out the information noting that cross-references in the book we saw were difficult to follow.]
