m1/2. Elizabeth Stapleton (dau of Sir Miles Stapleton)
m2/1. Isabella Jamys (dau/heir of John Jamys)
BE1883 and Commoners both report that Sir John married Elizabeth Stapleton (without mentioned Isabella Jamys) but BP1934 & Vivian identify his wife as Isabella Jamys (without mentioned Elizabeth Stapleton). We presume that he married both but are not sure which wife was the mother of Sir John's children but tend to support the view that it was Isabella Jamys as BP1934 & Vivian were both produced later than BE1883 & Commoners.

(2) | John Fortescue | ||||||||||||||
(3) | Anastacia Fortescue
BE1883 identifies the daughter of this generation as Alice who m. John Farry. Commoners names her Alice but her husband as William Facye. Vivian names her Anastacia and shows that she married as follows:
m1. _ Ebbsworthy | |||||||||||||||
m2. William Vacy of Vacy in Tamerton
m3. _ Killiowe | |||||||||||||||

C. | Maude Fortescue | ||||||||||||||
m. (1445) Robert Corbet
3. | (Sir) Richard Fortescue
Vivian does not follow this line but identifies Sir Richard as ancestor of Fortescue of Punsborne, Falkborne & Seldon. Commoners (Fortescue of Fallafit) identifies him as "progenitor of Punsburn, in Herts, of Saldon, in Bucks, and of Faulkborne, in Essex". The following comes from BE1883 and Visitation (Buckinghamshire, 1634, Fortescue of Salden) though Visitation is confused with Richard's ancestry.

m2. Anne Rede (dau of Sir William Rede of Rockingham Castle)
c. | Sir John Fortescue of Salden House, Chancellor of the Exchequer (b 1533, d 23.12.1607)
BE1883 and Visitation disagree over this and the next generation. BE1883 shows Sir John's wives as Alice (dau of Edward Ashfield) and Eleanor (dau of Edward Hubbard), with 3 children by Eleanor: Sir Francis, Sheriff of Buckinghamshire, Sir John (ancestor of later owners of Salden), and Margery. Provisionally, but not least because Visitation includes reference to daughter Eleanor's husband's name being originally shown as Edward but that being crossed out, we follow Visitation but note that this should be viewed with some caution.
m1. Cicely Ashfield (dau/coheir of Sir Edmund (probably not Christopher) Ashfield of Ewlin or Ewelme)
(1) | Sir Francis Fortescue of Salden, Sheriff of Buckinghamshire (d 1623)
By following Visitation we may effectively be assuming that BE1883 was wrong in viewing Sir John as his brother rather than his son. Visitation, supported by TCP (Shrewsbury) and the Fortescue web site mentioned just below, shows Sir Francis's wife as ...
m. Grace Manners (dau of Sir John Manners or Mannors of Netherhaddon of Haddon Hall)
