CTG (vol 6, 'Claim of James Percy, the trunk-maker, to the Earldom of Northumberland, as descended from Sir Ingelgram or Ingram Percy ...', p266+) reports on the allegation by James Percy (b 1619) that he was descended from a son of Sir Ingelgram named Henry Percy of Pavenham, that claim apparently being made alongside an alternative claim that that Henry was a son of Sir Richard Percy, brother of Henry the 9th Earl. The claim included the report that Henry and his siblings (Robert, Anne & Eleanor), were "sent out of the North about 1559, in hampers, to old Dame Vaux at Harrowden. This was twenty-one years after the date of the probate of Sir Ingelgram's will!" [A hamper is a basket with a carrying handle and a hinged lid.] CTG also reports that Ingelgram's will made it clear that he left only an illegitimate daughter. The claim was dismissed by the House of Lords who demanded that "the said James Percy shall be brought before the four Courts in Westminster Hall, wearing a paper upon his breast, in which these words shall be written, The False and Impudent Pretender to the Earldom of Northumberland."
